I think one can (indeed, should) "support" (that is, respect the basic moral and legal rights of) persons involved in the occupation, without supporting their actions, beliefs, or mission.
I agree that respect and admiration for those who have come to terms with death and are fighting every day in Iraq, Afghanistan or where ever in the world ought to happen. This is so because, like professionals in the business world and other private and public sectors, these people are simply doing their jobs, many jobs we would be too afraid to do, even though we do not agree with administrators' and public officials' reason for entering into a state of war.
